There are many types of communication. Each one has a different purpose, as well as a set of methods that work best. For example, intimate communication has the goal of feeling close and safe. Here the ability to express feelings in a non-critical way, effectively acknowledge the feelings of others, and create new ways of being together without conflict are all essential to the experience of feeling intimate. Strategic communication is the method that is best used at work. Here the purpose for the team is to accomplish the goals that have been set for the success of the business. The most effective communication methods are those that will achieve the business goals most effectively and efficiently. Other forms of communication include self-communication, spiritual communion, "venting" communication, expressing oneself in writing, and so on. Each one has its own "best practices". People often mix up the techniques. For example, they might do intimate talking at work and strategic talking at home. At CSI we assist our clients in making these distinctions and learning the additional communication techniques that will help them achieve their goals. |
